What the 10M rule says

To earn each month from the Shorts Creator Pool, creators need to maintain 10M qualified Shorts views over the last 90 days, starting 1 February 2027. Missing it doesn't remove you from the YouTube Partner Program and doesn't affect your other YPP earnings, including long-form videos.[YouTube Help: Changes to the YouTube Partner Program]

The views are measured over the 90-day period ending on the 15th day of the calendar month before the month being paid.[YouTube Help: YouTube Shorts monetization policies]

Shorts revenue sharing resumes automatically once a channel is back above 10 million.[YouTube Blog, 10 Aug 2026: New opportunities to earn and changes to the YouTube Partner Program]

How many Shorts views a day is 10M in 90 days?

Our math / reading10,000,000 ÷ 90 = 111,111.1, so starting from zero you need about 111,112 qualified Shorts views a day, every day, to reach 10M by the end of a 90-day window. This is arithmetic, not a YouTube figure.

Our math / readingBecause the window rolls, every new day also pushes the oldest day out. A channel at 8M today can still drop if its big days are about to leave the window. That's why the tracker works from your daily numbers instead of one total.

Which views count

Since 31 March 2025 the Shorts “Views” metric counts every start or replay; the older metric is now called “Engaged views”.[YouTube Help: Get started creating YouTube Shorts: “Changes to Shorts views count”]

From 24 August 2026 views are counted the moment a video starts to play, across all formats. YPP eligibility is still based on “qualified views”, and YPP earnings on “engaged views”.[YouTube Help: How engagement metrics are counted]

Check your channel

In YouTube Studio open Analytics → Advanced mode, filter Content type to Shorts, pick at least the last 180 days with Date as the dimension, add Engaged views if you can, and export the current view as a CSV. Drop it into ShortsGate: it adds up every 90-day window, marks the months you'd have qualified, and shows the daily views you need for the next measurement. The file never leaves your browser.

FAQ

How many Shorts views per day do I need for 10M in 90 days?

Starting from zero, about 111,112 qualified Shorts views a day (10,000,000 ÷ 90). If you already have views in the window, you need fewer, but you also have to replace the days that drop out. ShortsGate works this out from your own daily Studio export.

When is the 10M Shorts views rule measured?

YouTube measures qualified Shorts views over the 90-day period ending on the 15th day of the month before the month being paid. By our reading, February 2027 earnings depend on 18 October 2026 to 15 January 2027.

Do I lose YPP if I'm under 10M Shorts views?

No. YouTube says missing the threshold doesn't remove you from YPP and doesn't affect your other YPP earnings, including long-form videos. Shorts revenue sharing resumes automatically once you're back above 10M.
